Jenny was heaven, the angels all wanted her smile
without even trying, she drove all the farmer boys wild
she danced in their dreams and they loved how she looked in those shoes
then she disappeared and left 'em all singing the blues
thumb on the highway, a backpack to freedom at last
"how far you going?" she thought she heard somebody ask
"it don't really matter", she said as she lay down to rest
that little town melted away as she headed out west
and down at the kingpin the boys and their stories repeat
jeff bought a house and davey's with mom up the street
the schoolhouse is boarded, the kids take the bus thirty miles
"the football team looks pretty good", billy says with a smile
snow on the branches, she watches the stars up above
she can't stay too long cuz she's worried she might fall in love
a life on the road is a life that she can't second guess
a sip from the cup couldn't satisfy her like the rest
she heads for the mountains whenever the desert gets hot
she thought about settling down, but probably not
wind at her back and a slight silver shine in her hair
she'll be gone in the morning, her fingerprints left everywhere
and down at the kingpin, the middle-aged stories repeat
they talk about Jenny, that girl they remember so sweet
she danced in their dreams and they loved how she looked in those shoes
then she disappeared and left them all singin' the blues
she pulled up her stake and she's out on the road once again
passing the corn fields she wonders what life could've been
one little slice tasted good, but she wanted it all
she'll probably be in miami some time around fall
and down at the kingpin, the old man stories repeat
then fall into silence when someone walks in off the street
they pull out the yearbook, they tell her how she hasn't changed
she hopes they don't notice that she can't remember their names
the schoolhouse is boarded, the kids take the bus thirty miles
the football team looks pretty good, billy says with a smile
she danced in their dreams and they loved how she looked in those shoes
then she disappeared and left them all singin the blues
